It was a warm summer
day with fresh aromatic blossoms in the
fragrant air. I felt a sense of
peacefulness. When this happens I know my
angel is walking with me. She has a way of
soothing my aching heart while keeping me
company.
I do most of my praying on my nature
walks. Being with nature allows me to feel
a spiritual closeness to God. Before I
knew there were angels I was extremely
curious. I asked God one day to please
show me a sign of some kind. I desperately
wanted confirmation that angels existed.
God's ways are mysterious. We often don't
always understand what God is trying to
teach us.
I have a favorite path that I walk on in
the Maine woods. My companion is the blue
sky above with it's wispy clouds
artistically painting angelic forms of
art. I listen to the carefree melodies of
joyful birds flying about in freedom's
air. After walking for awhile, I spotted a
Monarch butterfly with a damaged wing
fluttering about in a murky puddle of mud.
The tip of her wing was painfully hanging.
I gently picked her up and set her in my
hand. I spoke to her with love and
concern. I had to sever the warped part of
her injured wing that seemed to be
weighing her down. She sat in my hand for
awhile looking very much at ease.
I looked around for a flower to set her
on. I found this yellow daisy and
cautiously set her upon it. She then
spread her wings like she was ready to fly
away. How regal she looked, how proud! She
then closed her wing, (like a fan) into a
fine straight line. I watched her in awe
of her beauty for the longest time. She
appeared to be listening while I sang to
her.
Saying goodbye to my knew found friend was
gravely difficult. I wanted to bring her
home with me, but she would have lost her
freedom. Hopefully she could fly again, so
I set her free. I told her that I wished
that someday we would meet again. Every
time I crossed the same path I'd look
around to see if I could, (one more time)
get a glimpse of her beauty.
One fine day I spotted an elegant Monarch
perched on a marigold. I wondered, could
it be my Angelic Butterfly? I carefully
walked over; (so not to scare her off).
When I got really close, she spread her
kaleidoscopic wings and flew away. Then I
thought; there is no way I will ever see
my lady butterfly again. Sadly, I started
singing the song I'd sung to her while
fixing her crippled wing.
The birds were docile on this somber day,
a stillness waft in the air; as a warm
breeze caressed my cheeks. My heart was
heavy and I felt dejected. Looking around
I spotted her flittering about so
joyfully. Then she timidly perched atop my
outstretched hand.
Just then I saw that the tip of her wing
was clipped. It was then I knew it was my
Angelic Butterfly who had returned to
thank me and bid me farewell.
