So often I come to this favorite place
Where together we pledged to be true;
So often I come here alone so that I
Can have time just to think about you.
I held you so close as the bright setting sun
Bathed the earth in a glorious hue.
All nature seemed ready to join in a song
That would celebrate my love for you.
But one day I waited for you to appear,
Dressed in gingham as you always do,
The hours passed by and my heart seemed to know
That you’d gone and that we were all through.
But I will keep coming to this hallowed place
For that’s where my heart wants to be.
And I will keep praying I’ll look down the path
And see you come running toward me.
