When
the blackness of the forest
Keeps the sun from shining through,
When I look toward the heavens
And see not a hint of blue,
When I find myself surrounded
By all kinds of fear and doubt
And I search for paths to open,
Showing ways I can get out,
Then I stop my frantic running
And drop slowly to my knees,
Kneeling in the cooling humus
That surrounds the giant trees,
I can feel the gentle breezes
And the birds’ sweet warbling sound;
For the first time I’m aware
That there is beauty all around.
I begin to sing God’s praises
As the leaves begin to part,
Letting in the light of glory,
Bringing joy into my heart.
I’m no longer in the darkness
I am filled with joy anew!
For no matter our surroundings,
We will see His light shine through.
