"My Heart Ran Out Of Spring"

"My heart ran out of Spring," he said as he looked down.

"You have it mixed up.  Spring is not in your heart.  Your heart must be in Spring."

"Lonely."  "Empty."  Those are words he used to describe his life and yet, he had a beautiful family and friends who loved him.  How could this be?

"I am a man of dreams, or at least I was.  I cannot see the "possible" in anything any more," he said.

"Empty" is how one describes a vessel, not a life.  Lonely is a choice," I said to him.  "Your life holds more than you choose to acknowledge and you are surrounded by people who love you and support you in everything you do."

"But my dreams..." he began to say.

"If you hold your dreams separately from the rest of your life then you are a fool.  If your dreams did not include the people who love you then they were foolish dreams.  What good is a dream accomplished if you stand alone?" I said as I looked straight at him.

He then turned away from me.

"You talk of Spring.  Spring is a time for re-birth, new beginnings and hope.  Your heart ran out of Spring" as you said, because in the past, your dreams were temporary.  Back then you did not plant the seeds of tomorrow, you tried building a future by planning only for the present.  Those are not dreams, they are self fulfilling prophecies of failure designed only for immediate satisfaction."

He turned back toward me, his head slightly cocked to one side and said, "But they felt right. They felt like dreams."

"Was today in them?" I asked.

"No.  Obviously not." he said.

"And yet it is Spring," I said.  "Still it is never too late for planting.  In the life God planned for you, harvest time comes at the end of each day.  You reap what was created by Him and nurtured by you.  Take only what you need and give a portion to those whose needs are greater.  The next day, you plant again, give more and before you know it your dreams become reality.  Because they are dreams shared, encompassing others."

His tear-filled eyes contradicted his smile.  But they were the tears of a man who finally realized, Spring is alive and well when your heart is in it."

"I believe in you!"
